IBM System i (iSeries, AS/400)

Pros:

  • Has a well-deserved reputation for stability and reliability
  • Has the lowest operating cost of any platform
  • Administration is very simple. It just runs

Cons:

  • Up-front costs can be higher than other platforms
  • The proprietary nature of its architecture can be seen as a negative
  • Platform skills are dwindling and it is therefore more expensive to obtain the talent to support it

Intel/Windows Platform

Pros:

  • Has a lower entry cost than other platforms, especially when compared to the System i
  • Windows skill sets are far more common and therefore less expensive to obtain

Cons:

  • The Windows platform is perceived to be less reliable and less stable than System i
  • Administration of Windows environment requires more effort than System i
  • Proper sizing and configuration is key to obtaining a stable, high-performance implementation

  • There is no single best choice of platform for EnterpriseOne
